MICROCOSMS AND THE SUBCONSCIOUS

“Let us make man in our image”

Us? This is where people get tripped up over scriptures. We see the word us and start thinking like human beings again. We stumble over trinitarian doctrines ignoring God as a unity or dive into ancient astronaut theory and completely miss the point. This comes from a literal misunderstanding of what the various names of God represent in the Hebrew scriptures. Two points:

  • The Creator is actually never mentioned by name and alluded to as the unknowable Ein Soph. All of the names are attributes of how this said Unknowable Entity manifests in Creation.
  • Those attributes, or Names of God aren’t names in the way we think, they are Natures. (I’ll leave that for you to ponder for a while. It’s fun!)

Kabbalah teaches that each Nature corresponds to a different state of human consciousness. This of course begs for quite a few questions to be asked.

What if we’re talking about likeness of mind? What if our consciousness, that eternal part of us, springs up within the Cosmic Mind of God? “I AM… a blogger with a blog?” We… humans… are everything we attach to the I sense within us but what if that Divine Spark Kabbalah is so fond of is literally the “I AM” sense before the labels?

It’s too easy for the intellectual that wants the world to be clever. After all, like the apostle Paul said-

“For the wisdom of the world is foolishness before God. For it is written, ‘He is the ONE who catches the wise in their craftinesses.’”

-1 Corinthians 3:19

-but I digress for now.

The simple fact remains we are seen as a microcosm. The Universe we live in is the macrocosm. Even the six days of creation manifest in our bodies themselves. Two arms, two legs, torso and sexual organs.

“God formed man in the image of God.”

-Genesis 1:26

Once again, the Nature/Name of God used here is Elohim. We talked about tzimtzum in the last post on Consciousness & Creation. To oversimplify tzimtzum is the self limitation necessary for existence to be. Let’s expand on what that means for us a bit. Humankinds form parallels the structure of the delineating forces that define creation. Sophia and Logos. We are feminine and masculine and not just as separate genders either but in conscious and subconscious terms as well. Masculine being intellect and logic, feminine being intuition and feeling. This is what Christ is alluding to in the Gospel of Thomas where he says:

“Therefore I say that if one is unified one will be filled with light, but if one is divided one will be filled with darkness.”

-Thomas 61c

When one uses this terminology to understand the framework of scripture the husband being “dominant” over the bride makes perfect sense. Our conscious, waking mind (husband) feeds our subconscious mind (wife) all of the thought and sensory perception it receives. When the two are in conflict, like when we tell ourselves something we don’t really believe over and over again, we are in spiritual darkness because our subconscious can only accept that which we feel to be true. Then there’s the other side of the coin..

“And after the fire a still small voice…”

-1 Kings 19:12

Those messages of the Prophets that are always accompanied by symbolism. I’m not sure at what point our idea of God became less abstract and more this concrete, Sky Daddy concept we have now but it’s not all that accurate. Wind… storms… fire… these are the stirrings of the mystery that almost always accompany the Divine Presence. Why? Because our unknowable God always wells up within us from deep, deep, DEEP in our subconscious.

It’s almost like God is within us or something. I don’t know.

Anyways, I’ve given you a lot to think about here. Allow me to close with a quote from “Consciousness in the universe: A review of the ‘Orch OR’ theory.” It’s definitely a nice finishing touch with plenty to think about.

“I think more like a quantum Buddhist, in that there is a universal proto-conscious mind which we access, and can influence us. But it actually exists at the fundamental level of the universe, at the Planck scale.”
