SOLOMON’S MAGICK

MODERN MYSTICISM

One of the biggest problems skeptics of religion have is how open ended and vague a lot of scriptures tend to be. Since the whole realm is open to interpretation modern minds tend to pick apart ideologies and consider people of Faith to be a bit backwards, or ignorant. While most believers are more than fine arguing down these sorts by playing up the scriptures open ended nature they tend to become incredibly narrow minded if you point out a variation they are not comfortable with or flat out do not like. Mysticism is definitely at the top of the charts for the modern Church. They either claim that mystical experience- the intimate union of the soul WITH GOD- is either a form of sorcery or write it off as some sort of ramblings from madmen.

Obviously, the Bible is riddled with detailed accounts of mystical experiences happening to ordinary people stretching back for centuries on end. So why is it that we seem to have a complete breakdown from the interventions of old and modern day mystics? Is it that Christians have become closed-minded and forgotten their way like many occultists would have you believe? Or is mysticism just occult science with a pretty little new aged makeover like many modern Christians claim?

I personally feel that people in general have become so wrapped up in materialism that any genuine spiritual experience is deemed unrealistic and seems just out of reach. As a result, people who are incapable of hearing God speak cannot accept that ANYONE can tune into the still small voice. The truth of the matter is we are no more disconnected today than our ancestors were several thousand years ago. The problem is we tend to lack the discipline or the patience to achieve a mystical experience. Like Meister Eckhart said “God is at home, it is we who have gone out for a walk.”

ALLEGORIES OF OLD

Every practitioner of Magick over the past 3,000 years has been aware of King Solomon and his impact on the subject. Many people would have you believe that the Bible doesn’t document the inner workings of Solomon but I can assure you that is simply not the case. The problem is the language tends to be vague and the meanings of the stories seem to be many-sided and indirect at best. So many of the stories surrounding the Son of David are riddled with allegories on how he practiced magick.

The first allegory we see is the construction of Solomon’s Temple itself. Anyone who has ever seen a diagram of the Temple that is described in I Kings chapter 7 can attest to the fact that it does not match with the one still standing in Jerusalem today. Masonic lore dictates that the two individuals responsible for the building of the Temple represent the two paths one can take on earth to attain spiritual perfection. One is exacting cosmic will through meditation and the other is immersed in intense earthly activity. Either way, what we are talking about here is a meditative technique. We visualize and construct the Temple inside ourselves as a means of communing with God in the Spirit Realm. Ask and you shall receive.

“He set up the columns at the temple porch; one he set up to the south, and called it Jachin, and the other to the north, and called it Boaz.” (NAB- I Kings 7:21)

There is plenty of occult thought on display here. Some have taken to believing these two pillars represent the pulse of the cosmos by marking the furthest rising of the sun at the equinoxes. The famous historian Josephus said that these two columns were topped with orreries- mechanical representations of the motion of planets- giving credence to the claim. The Qabala is ripe with information on the Jewish zodiac and we can actually see this belief broken down in their diagram of the Tree Of Life.

Here’s where I and occultists part ways. While I can easily see this Tree of Life as a near Eastern version of the Kundalini and recognize its significance we interpret it very differently. Yes. This is a Jewish version of what is known as Sushamni Nadi- or the path to inner purification in western alchemy. However, this is not meant to be harnesses as a source of power for material wealth. Occultists have a longstanding tradition of how the practitioner can bend the material world to the power of one’s will. This is sometimes referred to as the left-hand path. Clear and concise instructions have been shared through the likes of Aleister Crowley. Obviously, Christians- myself included- cannot condone this sort of spiritual practice and a thinking person would do well to note how Mr. Crowley spent his last days on earth; a penniless heroin addict. Thus is the end result of those who violate spiritual law for selfish aims.

We are meant to bow our will to the will of the Father. Yehovah- not the God who exists, but the God who effects His will. This is where the split takes place. A righteous person is one who submits to the will of God. We are servants meant to share Gods grace and love with the world, not self-stylized masters of the universe pulling our innermost desires to us. What is important here is intention; the why behind our desires. By dedicating our will and our lives to God we are freely giving ourselves over to God. The paradox being that God blesses those who keep His commandments.

SOLOMON’S DESTRUCTION

“Give your servant , therefore, a listening heart to judge your people and to distinguish between good and evil. For who is able to give judgement for this vast people of yours?” (NAB- I Kings 3:9)

The first lesson Solomon teaches us is that we merely have to ask God for what need KNOWING He will provide. However, one should ask wisely. King Solomon definitely pleased the Lord by asking for the wisdom to guide his people. God responded in kind.

“And if you walk in my ways, keeping my statutes, and commandments, as David your Father did, I will give you long life.: (NAB- I Kings 3:14)

God was obviously pleased with Solomon and his request that he gave him detailed instructions on how to continue from there. As we see later in the New Testament the whole of the Law can be summed up as follows- “You shall love the Lord, YOUR GOD with all your heart, and all your mind, and all your spirit.” This obviously encapsulates the whole ‘have no other gods before me’ bit. He also granted King Solomon with great knowledge and dominion over ALL of the creatures on Earth. We see evidence of this in the Qur’an:

“O humankind! I made jinn and devils, even their most evil ones obey a servant who obeyed me. IF YOU SUBMIT yourself to my commands, most creatures including jinn and devils may be subjugated to you.” (Sirah 21:82)

See, Muslims are taught that they have dominion over ALL creatures so long as they submit to God’s will, which is what being Muslim is all about, submission. These verses are meant to reflect the highest point of occult practice which is a blending of art and science. They urge us to subjugate and employ such creatures to do our bidding so long as it’s in line with Divine will. This is obviously a slippery slope with way too much room for error. Too much interpretation. Too much humaning.

Solomon not only subjugated these creatures from the abyss but he was also believed to have left a book behind detailing exactly how this can be done. There is a great deal of speculation as to where this book went and conspiracy theorists have had a field day with the subject. What we do know is there is an unbroken lineage of grimoires that detail which devils can be controlled by the various hosts of archangels along with astrological charts, talismans and every other form of witchcraft imaginable. I personally wouldn’t recommend torturing disembodied beings by invoking the Power of the Alpha and Omega- which is YHWH by the way- as a means to attain material wealth. I mean, why contact them at all? By their very nature they are vile and evil and seek to lie, steal, kill, and destroy. I believe it was Beduizzaman Said Nursi who noted “we had created before from the smokeless fire penetrating the skin JINN who cause sedition and bloodshed.” So even people who recommend controlling such creatures note that they bring only destruction and pain.

The story goes that King Solomon constructed Gods temple on the backs of the creatures he was given power over. GIVEN being the operative word here. It was God who subdued the wind, the builders, and the divers which are another group of disembodied beings. Once we get wrapped up in the occult sciences it’s easy to forget that the power isn’t ours. The evil ones are always more than pleased to use that pride against.

See, the jinn knew the unseen- beyond the reach of most created beings perception, beyond the eyes of men. They were all too aware that Solomon’s Kingdom was being eaten from within. They could see him being absorbed with the power he wielded; a power which God had bestowed upon him. So, they built him up while planning his fall. In the end, Solomon putting his FAITH in his knowledge and intellect cost him dearly. God had planted Wisdom in his heart and he rejected it as the years progressed. The jinn were patient knowing the flesh of men is weak.

“And when I answered that I would on no account worship demons, they told the maiden not to sleep with me until I complied and sacrificed to their gods. I then was moved, but crafty Eros brought and laid by her for me five grasshoppers saying: ‘take these grasshoppers and crush them together in the name of the god Moloch; and then I will SLEEP with you.’ And this I did. And at once the Spirit of God departed from me, I became weak as well as foolish in my words. And after that I was obliged by her to build a temple of idols to Baal, and to Rapha, and to Moloch, and to the other demons.” (Testament Of Solomon- v. 129)

In the Testament of Solomon we can see clearly how this mighty kings destruction came about. His carnal desire for things of the flesh caused him to fall out of favor with God. God responded in kind:

“Since this is what you wanted, and you have not kept my covenant and the statutes which I enjoined on you, I will surely tear the Kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.” (I Kings 11:11-12)

In the end, sorcery cost Solomon EVERYTHING. His lust and desire separated him from God. Constructing temples to false idols is explicitly warned against time and again throughout the Bible. This is why Christians do not trust mystical experience. Even the WISEST of men fell victim to the cunning of devils. It is of the upmost importance to understand who, or WHAT you are serving. As it warns in II Timothy 6:10, “some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

TESTING THE SPIRIT

“Now the spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will turn away from the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and demonic instructions through the hypocrisy of liars with branded consciences… for everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected when received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the invocation of God in prayer.” (NAB- I Tim. 4:1-4)

Here’s where the problem with mysticism comes into being with most Christians. People turn away from the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits. Even the Qur’an warns that necromancers- what new ager thinkers call mediums- are not actually talking to the dead but are in fact consorting with evil spirits masquerading as deceased loved ones. There are several different schools of thought on whether or not this is accurate. Also, there are plenty of people outside of the faith who should feel free to do as they please in regards to the astral plane. I’m not here to argue. This, afterall, is meant to be a guide to Christians wishing to broaden their perspectives and grasp a better understanding of the Spirit world. If you are one of those rare Christians who regularly meditates and have come to realize that other spirits are often times nearby during said meditation I offer this advice from the scriptures:

“This is how you can know the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ coming IN THE FLESH belongs to God, and every spirit that DOES NOT belong to God will not acknowledge Jesus.” (NAB- I John 4:1-2)

This is almost worth writing a second time just to emphasize how important a lesson it actually is. To consort with, or worship ANY being that does not recognize Yeshua coming in the flesh is to break the Covenant God made with us all. So whereas it should be obvious that we who walk in the path of righteousness have NOTHING to fear from ANY spirit that inhabits earth it should also be duly noted that our dominion over them is a GIFT from God. Tread carefully and keep your trust where it belongs, in Jehovah Jireh- the one who provides. Not the ones who offer power and prestige. Peace be with you.
